Additional Information for Z series RAW video output upgrade & Blackmagic RAW recording

Z 6 with BMD Video Assist 12G Recorder

The Z 6II & Z 7II with firmware v1.10 or newer (25 Feb 2021 onwards) as well as Z 6 & Z 7 with firmware v3.20 or newer (17 Dec 2020 onwards) can now be upgraded to output raw video via HDMI connector to Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR recorders thus enabling recording into 12-bit Blackmagic RAW.  The upgrade requires the firmware to be updated in which you are also required to send in the camera to the selected authorized service center for the raw video output upgrade service activation at a fee.

Combined with the full-frame sensor’s vast dynamic range & the unprecedented image quality of NIKKOR Z lenses, this new feature delivers beautiful footage that can be processed directly with the popular DaVinci Resolve software suite.

Note:
  • When shooting in raw video output mode compatible with Blackmagic (Type B), the camera will utilize Nikon N-Log for Gamma with Rec. 2020 for color gamut.  The base ISO will be ISO 800 by specification. 
  • Blackmagic Video Assist 12G recorders will require firmware v3.4 or newer to support Nikon raw, kindly refer to this page for more information.
