Windows 7 Compatibility

Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs.

We are pleased to announce the following regarding compatibility testing of our digital cameras, scanners and Windows software products with Windows 7.


Digital SLR cameras

We have released Windows 7 compatible versions of Nikon Transfer and ViewNX for the following models.  The Windows 7 compatible versions of these applications may be downloaded from our website.


Standard operating system functions may be used to transfer images over a USB connection when the camera's USB transfer protocol is set to MTP/PTP, PTP, or Mass storage.  

D3 series, D2 series, D300 series,
D700, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70 series, D60, D50, D40 series, D5000, D3000


We do not plan to offer compatibility for D1-series cameras (D1X, D1H, D1) connected to a computer with Windows 7 preinstalled.
Use a card reader or card slot to transfer images.
 


COOLPIX digital cameras

COOLPIX-series cameras released in the spring of 2010, as well as all those scheduled for later release, have, or will, acquire the Compatible with Windows 7 logo.  In addition, the Nikon Software Suite CD supplied with these cameras is also compatible with Windows 7.

We have released Windows 7 compatible versions of Nikon Transfer and ViewNX for the following models.  The Windows 7 compatible versions of these applications may be downloaded from our website.

We do not plan to offer compatibility for COOLPIX 990 or COOLPIX 880 connection to a computer with Windows 7 preinstalled. Use a card reader or card slot to transfer images.

1Files cannot be transferred using the PTP USB transfer protocol. Set the camera’s USB transfer protocol to Mass storage.

2Option for choosing USB transfer protocol is not available. Use standard connection method.

 


Film scanners

Please be informed that Nikon Scan 4.0.3 is officially designed for support for 32-bit Windows Vista Operating Systems. However, we have tested that installation of Nikon Scan 4.0.3 and general operations is possible under the 32-bit version of Windows 7 with the following scanner models listed below. Please take note that we are unable to guarantee full operability of the software with the scanners, or successful installation on different computer platforms which are using 32-bit version of Windows 7.

In addition, please be informed that the scanners are incompatible for use with 64-bit version of Windows 7. Kindly note that we do not plan to offer compatibility of the scanners with Windows 7.

Software

  1. Nikon Transfer

  2. Compatibility available with Ver. 1.5.2 and later.  The software operates as a 32-bit application under the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  

  3. ViewNX

  4. Compatibility available with Ver. 1.5.1 and later.  The software operates as a 32-bit application under the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  

  5. Capture NX 2

  6. Compatibility available with Ver. 2.2.4 and later.  The software operates as a 32-bit application under the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  

  7. Camera Control Pro 2

  8. Compatibility available with Ver. 2.7.0 and later.  The software operates as a 32-bit application under the 64-bit version of Windows 7.  

  9. nik Color Efex Pro

  10. We have confirmed that there is no problem with basic nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 operation under the 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 when the software is used with Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.4.  We do not intend to provide compatibility for nik Color Efex Pro 2.0.

  12. We have confirmed that there are no problems with basic operation of Ver. 1.1.0 under 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.  

  13. WT-4 Setup Utility/Thumbnail Selector

  14. Compatibility with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 is available with the WT-4 Setup Utility and Thumbnail Selector Ver. 1.1.4.   

  15. Compatibility with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 is available with the WT-4 Camera Control Utility for 64-bit Operating System Ver. 1.1.4.  PC mode (the mode used with Camera Control Pro 2) can be used, but transfer mode, thumbnail select mode and print mode cannot be used.  

  16. WT-3 Setup Utility

  17. We have confirmed that there are some issues that prevent operation of Ver. 1.0.1.  We do not plan to offer Windows 7 compatibility.  

  18. Wireless Connecting Utility

  19. We have confirmed that there are some issues that prevent operation of Ver. 1.0.1.  We do not plan to offer Windows 7 compatibility.  

  20. Image Authentication Software

  21. Compatibility available with Ver. 1.1.1 and later.  The software operates as a 32-bit application under the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

  22. Nikon Message Center

  23. Software and firmware update information cannot be displayed with Ver. 1.1.3 under 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Please download and install Nikon Message Center 2, which is compatible with Windows 7 (be aware that some Nikon software applications are not supported by Nikon Message Center 2).

  24. NEF Codec

  25. Compatibility with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 is available with Ver. 1.9.0. Compatibility with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 for this codec remains undetermined.

  26. NRW Codec

  27. Operation under the 32-bit version of Windows 7 has been confirmed with Ver. 1.0.0. Compatibility with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 for this codec remains undetermined.


We do not plan to provide Windows 7 compatibility for the following software applications.

PictureProject, Capture NX, Camera Control Pro, Wireless Camera Setup Utility, Nikon Capture 4, Nikon View 6, COOLPIX Remote Control, DVD Show

We do not plan to make SCSI- or serial-connection products, or their associated software applications, compatible with Windows 7. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information please contact your local service representative.
