Can I use a Nikon Scanner with a Macintosh Powerbook G3/G4?

The Macintosh G4 Powerbook and the earlier range of G3 Powerbook computers do not have on-board SCSI. This poses the problem of how to connect SCSI devices such as Nikon Scanners to the computer. Nikon suggest the use an Adaptec PCMCIA SCSI card - SlimSCSI 1480 - which has already been proven for use with Windows systems.

When used with an Macintosh computer, this SCSI adapter requires a MacOS driver, which at the time of this publication, can be found from the Adaptec web site:

NOTE: This adaptor is not compatible with Apple iBook computers that do not have a PC Card Slot.
