Nikon EN-MH1 Battery Life and Usage

Nikon EN-MH1 Battery Life and Usage

The Nikon EN-MH1 batteries are high-power, long-life, rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) "AA" size batteries and are available as an accessory for the Coolpix 2100 and 3100 cameras. They charge in about 2.5 hours and can power the camera for approximately 120 minutes (Coolpix 2100) and 80 minutes (Coolpix 3100).

The Nikon EN-MH1 batteries need to be conditioned prior to use in order to allow them to operate at their peak efficiency. The conditioning process is easy.

  1. After unpacking these batteries, charge them for 2.5 hours.
  2. Place the batteries in the camera and use the batteries until they are fully exhausted. An easy way to do this is to turn the camera's "Auto Off" timer to 30 minutes and then just leave the camera alone. After the camera turns off (in 30 minutes) turn it on again and wait 30 more minutes. Repeat until the "Battery Exhausted" symbol is on.
  3. Return the batteries to the charger and fully recharge them.
  4. Again, use the batteries in the camera until they are fully exhausted.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 three times.

Additional Notes:

  1. The above process can be used to condition batteries that have not been used for an extended period of time.
  2. To extend the life of the batteries, only charge them when they are fully discharged.
  3. These batteries will self-discharge when not in use. Because of this, it is recommended to leave the batteries stored discharged, and then fully charge them directly before use.
  4. The expected life of these batteries is approximately 500 usage cycles or two years, whichever is first.
  5. Both the battery and charger may get warm during use and charging. Wait until the battery cools before recharging after use.
  6. Nikon does not recommend charging these batteries in any other charger or using this charger with other batteries.
  7. For longest life these batteries should be used and recharged as a set. If you have multiple pairs, label them so that they are used together.
