8. The Flash Does Not Fire

Try the following if the flash does not fire

1. Check that the flash has not been disabled in the unit’s custom menu
Try again after enabling the flash.

2. Confirm that the following indicators are not displayed
If the flash gets too hot, it will display a thermal cut-out indicator and disable itself automatically to prevent damage. If a thermal cut-out indicator is displayed, do not turn the flash off but leave the power switch in its current position and wait for the flash to cool naturally. (Users of the SB-5000 should also select ON for Cooling system in the flash unit setup menu.) If the problem persists, contact a Nikon-authorized service representative.

3. Confirm that the following indicator is not displayed
If an abnormal voltage is detected, the flash unit will display a warning and all controls apart from the power switch will be disabled. Turn the unit off, remove the batteries, and consult a Nikon-authorized service representative.
