Technical Service Advisory for users of the COOLPIX L16 and L18 digital cameras

A problem has been identified where a limited number of COOLPIX L16 or L18 digital compact cameras may overheat in the unlikely event of the batteries being inserted with the positive and negative terminals reversed, and also if the camera receives a shock or impact at the same time. Under these circumstances, the failure may happen regardless of whether the power switch is in the ON or OFF position. In the worst possible case, overheating may cause the camera's top cover to become deformed and the camera will not work anymore.

This failure does not occur if the batteries are inserted with the positive and negative terminals in the correct orientation. Please take the necessary precautions to ensure that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction by following the guidelines in your instruction manual 'First Steps – Battery insertion' section.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause, and would like to inspect and, if necessary, repair the applicable products free of charge even if your warranty period may have expired. The products in question are identified below.

The camera’s serial number is the 8-digit number on the bottom of the camera body as examples below.





If the serial number of your camera is within the ranges indicated in the table below then please return it for inspection. If your camera is not within the ranges indicated then no further action is necessary.

This announcement does not apply to models marked with a black spot in the bottom of the tripod socket as shown in the images above.
