Which GPS devices are supported by Nikon cameras?

Connecting a GPS device to a camera allows the location coordinates to be recorded to the metadata of the image. Using this setup the latitude, longitude, altitude, UTC (universal time code) is recorded in the image EXIF data. Supported cameras will also record the compass heading when used with GPS units that support this feature.
